Boy run over by car before gang of men kick and stamp on him

Police are appealing for information after a teenager was hit by a car before being violently attacked by a gang of men in Tameside.

Officers were called to Bentinck Street in Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday evening (13 March) to reports that a 15-year-old boy had been injured during an assault. Two vehicles, one described as black and the other as a Mercedes, had pulled up alongside the victim and his friend on nearby Dean Street, GMP said.

The boy was then knocked to the floor by the black car before the occupants of both cars got out and repeatedly kicked and stamped on his body. He was left unconscious and was taken to hospital where he is continuing his recovery.

A 22-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information about the 'vicious' assault to come forward.

DS Ian Parker, of GMP's Tameside district, said: "This was a really vicious and unprovoked assault which left the young man with a bleed on the brain - hopefully, he will make a full recovery. We are committed to solving this crime and ensuring all those involved are brought to face justice.

"I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to anyone with information, mobile phone or dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident to contact us or Crimestoppers."

Anyone with information should contact police via 0161 856 9262 or gmp.police.uk quoting 2697 13/03/2022. Information can be shared anonymously via the independent charity - Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
