“Boy Meets World” actor Ben Savage hasn’t spoken with his former co-stars in three years, they shared in a new interview.
Savage, who starred as Cory Matthews in the coming-of-age series, repeatedly didn’t return phone calls from Will Friedle, the latter told Variety.
“He disappeared — I wish I knew why, to this day,” said Friedle, who played Cory’s older brother, Eric. “We didn’t have a fight. There’s no falling out. There was no animosity. He just woke up one day, and decided I don’t want this person in my life anymore.”
Friedle said, “I finally sent a text saying, ‘I’ve known you for 30 years, what’s going on?’ I said, ‘I’m gonna call you every day until you tell me not to call you anymore.’ That lasted about three weeks or a month, every single day.”
Savage, 42, starred with Friedle, Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong throughout the show’s seven-season run from 1993 to 2000. He reunited with them at fan conventions and returned for a Disney Channel spinoff series, “Girl Meets World,” that aired from 2014 to 2017.
Savage wasn’t interested, however, in joining a podcast about the show, “Pod Meets World,” with the trio, Fishel told Variety.
Fishel says Savage frequently checked in with her after the early birth of her son in 2019, but that something has changed since.
“He ghosted us,” said Fishel, who played Cory’s series-long love interest, Topanga.
“Speaking for myself, Ben and I may be estranged right now and we may have our complaints about each other, but I will always love Ben and want what’s best for him,” Fishel told Variety. “I don’t think this is the end of our story — but time will tell.”
