A 12-year-old boy is in hospital following a 'huge' explosion at a Scots industrial estate.
Four fire engines were scrambled to the fire at Tannochside Industrial Estate in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, at 9.10pm on Monday, June 5. Medics also attended and a child was found injured at the scene.
He was raced to hospital for treatment, where his current condition is unknown. Online reports suggest the boy suffered burns as a result of the blaze, however this has not yet been confirmed.
Police say inquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.10pm on Monday, June 5, police were called to an industrial unit in Bedlay View, Tannochside Industrial Estate, Uddingston following reports of an explosion. SFRS and Police attended and the fire was quickly extinguished.
"A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital following the fire and enquiries remain ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances of the incident.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.08pm on Monday, June 5 to initial reports of a building fire on Bedlay View, Uddingston. Operations Control mobilised a total of four fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a skip and a heavy goods vehicle.
"There were no casualties and crews left at 11.51pm after ensuring the area was made safe."
The Record has approached the Scottish Ambulance Service for comment.
