A nine-year-old boy was amazed when he found what he believes is the world’s longest chip - and he has named it Geoff.
Archie Davies was helping his family make dinner when he reached into the packet and pulled out the huge frozen snack.
Astounded, the family checked and found the chip was nine inches long - far longer than the current world record holder which stands at 8.6 inches.
Archie's mum Laura Davies told Wales Online: "He was so excited when we found it.
“We have contacted the Guinness Book of Records to find out if it could actually be a world record as we think the last recorded longest chip was 8.8 inches and ours is nine.
"Archie absolutely loves learning all about what the world records are. He has said absolutely no one is allowed to touch it for now and who knows if we ever will.
"I'm surprised he didn't try and take it into school today actually. He had a huge smile plastered on his face for a very long time after finding it.
“We did the research last night not really thinking anything would come of it but then realised this chip may have actually broken a record.
“Archie would love to be famous because of it I think."
A spokesperson for Asda said: “What a find, not only do we deliver big on value for our customers, but seemingly also on chips!
"We’ll keep our fingers crossed that this customer smashes the world record.”
Last year it was found Britons munch nearly five stone of chips each a year, with Yorkshire & Humber the keenest spud fans.
As a nation, we chomp our way through two billion kilos of them annually, or 30kg a head.
Some 40% of that is made up of shop-bought oven chips or ones we rustle up ourselves.
Another 35% is from the UK’s 10,500 fish and chip shops, the rest from other eateries.
The study by greetings card firm thortful.com found folk from Yorkshire and Humber gobbled 39kg of chips a year. Wales placed second in the table on 37kg, while the East Midlands languished in last on a mere 20kg.
Fan Ollie Parker, 40, of High Wycombe, Bucks, said: “I have chips at least three times a week.
“The only dilemma I have is what to have with them, as I love salt, vinegar, tomato sauce, brown sauce and mayo, which makes my plate look a bit odd.”
