A nine-year-old boy has been killed after a tree fell on him as Storm Malik brought high winds to parts of the UK today (Saturday).
The unnamed child and a man were struck when a tree fell on them both on a country road near Tean in Staffordshire.
The pair were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, where the boy later died.
The man remains in hospital being treated.
Police are at the scene in an area close to ut say that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
It's the second death which has been reported as part of the storm's onslaught on the country, after a 60-year-old woman was killed when a tree uprooted in Aberdeen.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Police received a report at 1pm this afternoon (Saturday 29 January) that a tree had fallen on a boy and a man, in an area close to Hollington Road, Winnothdale, near to Tean.
"The man and the boy were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
"Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical staff, a nine-year-old boy passed away.
"The boy’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers.
"The man remains in hospital.
"A scene remains at the location, where people are asked to avoid the area.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
