Boy, 8, killed and two others injured after motorcyclist collides with pedestrians - one man charged

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after an 8-year-old boy was killed in a fatal collision in Plumstead.

Mustafa Ahmed died following a collision in Plumstead Road, near the junction with Lenton Street, on Sunday, February 19.

Nicholas Hopkins, 20, was charged on Wednesday with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death while driving uninsured and causing death while driving unlicenced.

He was also charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, possession of cannabis, racially aggravated public order offence and failing to provide a sample of blood.

He is next due at the Central Criminal Court on Wednesday, April 12.

Officers were called following reports of a motorcycle colliding with three people on a pedestrian crossing in Plumstead Road.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Mustafa sadly died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A man in his 40s and a ten year-old boy, who were crossing the road together with Mustafa, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The man remains in a serious condition in hospital. The 10-year year old has been discharged but continues to receive treatment for life-changing injuries.
