Boy, 2, dies suddenly after falling ill in bath sparking emergency hospital dash

A two-year-old boy has died after falling ill in a bath, West Yorkshire Police have said.

The toddler was rushed to hospital after emergency services were called a home in Knottingley, near Wakefield, on Monday evening.

Tragically, however, the youngster was later pronounced dead.

Police are now investigating the death, which is currently being treated as a sudden infant death.

The force has also urged the public to be respectful of the family's grief.

A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 6.45pm last night (Monday, 17 April) to a report of a concern for safety for a two-year-old child.

"The child was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced deceased.

"Enquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances.

"The incident is being treated as a sudden death in childhood and we ask that people consider the family and respect their privacy at what is clearly a very difficult time for them."

The boy's identity has not been released and no arrests have been made in connection.

West Yorkshire Police has said anybody with information which could help the enquiry should contact the force's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
