Boy, 17, stabbed to death after '100 person-brawl including men with machetes'

A fight allegedly involving 100 people - some armed with machetes - has left one teenager dead and another fighting for his life.

A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death during the brawl in Bow, east London in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, September 4), while an 18-year-old was rushed to hospital and said to be in a life-threatening condition.

Just after midnight police were called to reports of "100 people fighting, some armed with machetes," writes My London.

The fight reportedly broke out after a group of uninvited people attended a party, although this has not been confirmed by police.

The "machetes" have not been recovered, and it's believed that armed people may be at large.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended but the teenager was pronounced dead in hospital at 1.54am.

An investigation is under way but no arrests have yet been made and anyone with information has been urged to contact police.

A spokesperson for the Met told said: “At 12.09am on Sunday, September 4, police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a large number of people in Lichfield Road, E3.

"Officers attended and became aware of two males with stab wounds. Medics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

“Both males were taken to an east London hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, one of the males – who is believed to be aged 17 – was pronounced dead at 1.54am. The second male – who is believed to be 18 – remains in a critical condition.

"An investigation is under way but at this early stage, no arrests have been made.”

The Met Police issued a Section 60 order for the E1 and E3 areas of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It was in place from 12.36am until 7am this morning. This lets police stop and search anyone in a set area and time period without "reasonable grounds".

Anyone with information should call 101, giving the reference 065/04SEP. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
