The 15-year-old has now been further charged with murder and appeared via video link at Liverpool Crown Court this morning, November 22.

The alleged attack happened at a house on Harrogate Road in Rock Ferry, Wirral, on Tuesday, October 25. Police were called to the address at around 11.30pm after receiving reports of a break-in.

A man in his 60s was allegedly attacked and suffered a head injury during the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

But the 69-year-old, David Quigley, was then found dead at his home three weeks later on Tuesday, November 15.

Judge Neil Flewitt KC set a trial date for March 13, during a brief hearing at Liverpool Crown Court this morning. The trial is set to last between five to seven days.

The 15-year-old defendant has not yet been asked to enter a plea. A plea and trial preparation hearing was also set for Friday, February 3.

He was remanded in youth detention accommodation until that date.
