A bizarre sexual experiment sent a 12-year-old boy to hospital for a horrendous operation after he slipped an entire thermometer up his penis.
The unnamed lad, 12, was admitted to hospital for bladder surgery after the eye-watering feat while masturbating.
After the temperature-measuring device became stuck, he was left in excruciating pain for nine hours.
X-rays showed the implement had gone so far up his urinary tract that it had passed into his bladder.
To remove it, doctors performed key hole surgery - which allowed doctors to access the inside of his abdomen without having to make large incisions in the skin.
Doctors at The First People's Hospital of Longquanyi District opted for the minimally-invasive surgery, thinking that by removing it the way it went in could cause irreparable damage to the youngster's organs and penis.
The boy, who was from Chengdu in central China, told doctors he'd put the thermometer inside for masturbatory purposes.
The insertion of objects into the urethra is a risky sexual practice called sounding, which can cause urinary tract infections, strictures, and loss of the foreign body.
Detailing the case in the Asian Journal of Surgery, urologists said they created a minute hole in the bladder tissue.
They used tiny tools to move the thermometer around and get it into the correct position for removal.
Though the operation was successful, it's still to be seen whether the lad could have any long-term complications from the sexual experiment.
Dr Changxing Ke, the lead author of the report, said it was "feelings of curiosity" and a "lack of sex education" that sparked his interest in putting a thermometer up his penis.
It comes just days after an army warrant officer who had half his penis removed when his cancer was misdiagnosed three times by doctors has been told he may only have a year to live.
Dad-of-two Gavin Brooks says he has been left with a 'Frankenweiner' after the blunder left his manhood mutilated by surgeons.
Despite having an operation to remove a cancerous tumour from his penis, the 45-year-old was given the crushing news the cancer had spread and he may only have a year to live.
Now Gavin, who hopes to raise money to fund experimental treatment abroad, wants to warn other men of the little-known disease and encourage them to check themselves.
He said: "I hope I can get some sort of treatment abroad that can help make the cancer smaller and make my lifespan longer so I can stay around as long as possible.
"My son Jorje says he's going to lift the World Cup one day and I want to be around for that."
