A boy has "suffered a significant head injury" after falling off a ride at a popular theme park in Australia.
The 12-year-old boy was seriously hurt after falling off a carousel he was riding at Movie World in Queensland on Tuesday April 5 at 1pm (4am in the UK).
He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital after first being treated by nurses on site at the theme park, according to local news site the Courier Mail.
The horror accident happened in the early afternoon, when the theme park was reportedly full of crowds of parents and kids on their school holidays.
A spokesperson from Village Roadshow Theme Parks confirmed to Australian site News.com.au that the boy suffered a laceration to his head from the fall.
They said: “This afternoon an ambulance was called to Movie World to attend to a guest following an incident on the carousel ride.
“The guest received a laceration to his head and was attended to by Movie World’s Nurse before being taken to hospital in a stable condition. Our thoughts are with the guest and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery."
The company added that it prides itself on "standards of care and quality", and confirmed that it has launched a priority investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
The ride that the boy fell from will also remain closed while the investigation is ongoing.
Village Roadshow Theme Parks added that it is "committed to providing guests with a fun and safe environment".
In a statement Queensland Ambulance Service supervisor, William Houghton, told Channel 7: “The patient was at the side of the amusement ride, he’d been tended to by one of the [registered nurses] on scene, so he had good first aid given before we arrived.
“The scene was very calm ... everyone seemed really helpful.
“(He was) obviously a bit shaken up after what happened, but he was in good spirits. People can die from head injuries but he’s extremely lucky. He’s in the best care at the moment.”
