A young boy has been left dreading school after his mum says bullies beat him, poured water over his head and tried to steal shoes from his feet.
Mum Majeka Majewska, who lives in Darfield, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, with son Oskar, got a worrying call from him on June 13 when he went to a friend's house after school.
The 12-year-old told his mum he had been attacked by "bullies" he had mentioned in the past, YorkshireLive reports.
The mum was reduced to tears and left devastated when she went to pick her son up from his friend's home and saw he had a bleeding nose and a bruise-covered face.
"Last week they pushed him into some bushes, and on Monday, he came back home like this," she said.
"The phone call was quick. I got in my car in a panic. Deep down I thought maybe it’s not as bad, but when he stepped out of his friend's house and I saw his nose bleeding and his face bruised all over, I cried."
Oskar's mum explained the Year 7 pupil was walking home from school when he was attacked by two bullies.
She claims Oskar had mentioned these two individuals in the past, but on this occasion they attacked him physically and made derogatory comments about his Polish origin.
She added: "We are devastated. They took his water bottle from his backpack and poured water all over him, which other students saw. They also tried to take his shoes off, he said.
"They attacked him not just physically but also verbally and projected hate speech upon his country of origin. Oscar was born in Poland but we moved over here when he was nine months old.
"They have been purposely targeting him on his breaks for days now. The school have also asked Oskar if they are bullying him. I am absolutely heartbroken."
In photos of his injuries, Oskar can be seen with a bruise around his eye socket and a cut in the middle of his nose.
He also has a large bruise on his right cheek.
His mum added: "It's disgusting name calling, as well as death threats. It all starts at home. Teach your kids mutual respect, not hatred."
Oskar's mum said he has been off school since it happened and was set to return this Monday (June 20) but was "scared".
Ahead of his return she added: "He is meant to be back on Monday and he's dreading it."
In an email to Majeka, a spokesperson from Netherwood School said: "We will be investigating the incident fully tomorrow morning - speaking to witnesses etc. His friend is meeting me in the morning to look at photos to identify any others involved."
After sharing what happened on social media, thousands shared their support for Oskar. Bianca Jade Pagett said: "Aww I hope everything gets sorted. I hate any bullying xxx."
Sandie Adsetts added: "This absolutely infuriates me. Just looking at them pictures of the boy makes me want to flip. I hope Oskar feels better soon love and heals quickly. Much love to you both, I absolutely despise bullies".
Andrea Wright said: "Aww bless him hope he's ok xx"
A spokesperson for Netherwood Academy said: "While it wouldn't be appropriate to provide specific details on individual cases, we will always thoroughly investigate any concerns raised by students and/or families, and ensure we have the right measures in place to safeguard our students.
"Safeguarding is our number one priority, and we will always do everything we can to make sure that our school is a welcoming and safe place for our students and staff.”
