A 10-year-old boy killed his mum by shooting her because she refused to buy him a virtual reality headset, prosecutors have said. The boy, from Milwaukee, intentionally aimed the weapon at his mum before pulling the trigger.
Charges obtained by the Journal Sentinel show that he initially told police investigating the death that the shooting on November 21 was an accident. He was charged as an adult last week with first-degree reckless homicide after later admitting he intentionally aimed at his mum before shooting her.
Wisconsin law requires children as young as 10 to be charged as adults for certain serious crimes, though the boy's attorneys can seek to move the case to juvenile court. The boy, who family members said has mental health issues, is being held in juvenile detention.
