Boy, 10, pinned schoolgirl, 11, to wall by her neck in horrifying attack

An 11-year-old girl was cornered by two boys before being pinned to the wall by her neck in a horrifying school attack.

The girl had just entered the grounds of her school, Park Primary School on Woodstock Road in Wallasey, on Friday, April 28 when she claims she was cornered by two boys. Her devastated mum, 34, from Wallasey, said her daughter told her she was pinned to a wall by her neck, punched, slapped, dragged to the floor by her hair and then kicked while she was down.

The attack is believed to have lasted a minute or two before the boys ran away and the 11-year-old girl sent a message to her mum.

Her mum told The ECHO: "I had just given her a key as she's going to big school next year and I won't be able to take her to school. It was just that little bit of extra freedom and she will always message me once she's in school.

"She messaged me and it came through on my Apple Watch. She said "[Boys name] has just attacked me" so I went to the school gate and said 'something has happened to my daughter, you're going to have to let me in'.

"The headteacher went and found her and she was in a right state and he bought her to me. She was sobbing, I was sobbing and she told us what happened - which the teacher confirmed after watching the CCTV.

"I was stroking her hair trying to calm her down and clumps of hair were just coming out in my hand."

The schoolgirl was left with bruises and scrapes on her legs and arms and she suffered a huge bump on her head. She has been off school since the incident, with her mum telling The ECHO she has also kept the girl's siblings off school following the attack.

The mum said: "I was absolutely horrified thinking how can a 10-year-old do this to an 11-year-old girl? The level of violence that came from that 10-year-old boy is horrifying. The boy who attacked her she had never spoken to before, but the other one with him who was shouting at his friend to 'batter her' has been picking on my daughter for years."

Merseyside Police were called following the incident, but after three weeks an officer emailed the mum to say the incident would "stay on police file systems but will not be investigated further".

The email read: "I have been discussing this incident at length with my supervision today and we have discussed all outcomes available. In regards of police investigation of this incident, the matter will stay on police file systems but will not be investigated any further.

"We feel this would be better managed at school because it's an environment where both children spend most of their time and it's not proportionate to be criminalising a child, as both parties are only 10 and 11 years of age, and the level of assault is low. Once the CCTV has been obtained from the school, if we determine this decision to be disproportionate we can review it."

The mum has now submitted a formal complaint to Merseyside Police and says she has "lost all faith in justice".

She told The ECHO: "We have never called police for anything so the time that we do reach out to them, when we need their help, and they let us down in such a way - I'm flabbergasted by it. I do not have the heart to tell my 11-year-old daughter that the police officer who looked my daughter in the eye and said 'it isn’t acceptable for anyone to put their hands on you, but especially not a boy' and promised to help her is no longer going to.

"I have lost my faith in any sort of justice, it doesn't make any sense to me. The school have been great, they couldn't have done anymore for us.

"They have made special arrangements and set my daughter up with a councillor within one and a half days of the incident happening. They have kept me informed as much as they can, I can't fault them."

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that a report of an assault at Park Primary School in Wallasey is still under investigation. However, as we have received a complaint, which will be investigated by Merseyside Police’s Professional Standards Department, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Headteacher of Park Primary School, Michael Mellin, said: “As a school community, we have done as much as we can to support all those involved or affected.”
