A 10-year-old boy was struck on the back of his head with a glass bottle by "two girls" as he walked home from primary school.
The incident occurred on Alford Street, Fairfield, at around 3.20pm on Tuesday, December 20. The boy's mum told the ECHO he was walking with friends when the girls, who are around the same age and who he knew, tried to get his attention.
She said: "He's a handsome lad and these girls are always trying to get attention from him, but he's not interested in that. He says he's too young and he doesn't want a girlfriend.

"He didn't realise they were trying to talk to him, he was on the phone. Then one of them hit in him on the back of the head with a glass water bottle."
The mum said thankfully the bottle didn't break, but her son was knocked to the ground and the impact smashed his phone screen. The impact caused a bruise and swelling to his head.
She said: "It was quite serious for him, and it could have been so much worse. He was on the phone to me crying saying they had smashed his phone. I ran out of the house to where it happened."
The incident was reported to Merseyside Police and to the boy's school, although the ECHO understands the force are unlikely to pursue a criminal prosecution due to the age of the girls.
A spokesman for the force said it had received reports of a 10-year-old boy being assaulted by two girls. He said: "Following our enquiries, contact has been made with the school to identify those responsible and take appropriate action."
