Boxing greats past and present are set to gather to celebrate the golden anniversary of the Merseyside Former Boxers’ Association.
The organisation, which was formed at the Flat House pub in Tuebrook in April 1973, is holding its golden anniversary celebratory dinner at The Adelphi Hotel this Sunday.
Current committee members Mick Molyneux (chairman), Terry Carson (secretary), Brian Wood, Tommy Nesbitt and Brian Snagg will all be in attendance, as will a host of boxing greats from across the city.
Natasha Jonas, who, as well as being a current unified world champion, became the first woman in history to win the British Boxing Board of Control's British Boxer of the Year Award last year, and James Metcalf, who claimed the IBO world super-welterweight title last month, will both be attending the event.

Former world champions John Conteh, Shea Neary, John H Stracey and Paul Hodkinson are also set to attend the dinner, while a number of former amateur stars will also be in attendance to celebrate the work the association has done over the past 50 years.
As well as providing a space for members of the Merseyside boxing community to meet up and reminisce, the association has also helped individuals and groups involved in the sport who have fallen on hard times over the last 50 years.
Thousands of pounds have been raised for various charities, while many of the boxing gyms across the city that have produced British, European and world champions have also benefited as a result of the work carried out by the MFBA.
Tickets are priced at £20 with food and £5 without food. Entertainment will also be provided, and there will be raffles and auctions, with all money raised from the event going to fund the work undertaken by the association. If anyone is interested in attending, they should contact Brian Snagg at snaggbrian20@gmail.com.
