Boxhall has issued an update on the future of the new Bristol venue after the site's developers hit further delays. A representative of the food hall, which was set to open this summer, confirmed that work has paused on site due to the landlord's contractors entering liquidation.
The concept stems from the successful London food hall, BOXPARK, and its first venue outside of London will hope to represent the city's diverse food and drink scene, aided by Bristol restauranteur Josh Eggleton. It's unfortunately not the first time the new Welsh Back venue has seen setbacks beyond its control, having already seen delays caused by the pandemic.
A spokesperson for Boxhall said: “We are incredibly disappointed to hear work has paused on site due to the landlord’s contractors entering liquidation. Over the last couple of months, we’ve been ramping up our plans, and collaborating with some of Bristol’s finest to prepare for a late summer opening.

“The site’s developers are working on sourcing alternative contractors. While they are currently now hoping to hand the site over to us in the autumn, until a contractor has been appointed, we won’t know the impact this will have on our opening date.
“These hurdles won’t deter us though; we remain completely committed to Bristol and can’t wait to open our first BOXHALL in the city as soon as feasible.”
Boxhall has not issued an update on when the venue is likely to reopen. Bristol's upcoming new food and music hall began its search to host the city's food and drink vendors last October, inviting independent businesses to apply to take one of seven kitchen spots available.
At the time, Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees said the new venture would create another 100 new jobs for Bristol and regenerate derelict sheds along the docks.
