A man has been left "seriously injured" in hospital following a boxing match at a Nottingham sports centre. The incident took place in one of the opening bouts of the night at the charity event in Harvey Hadden Sports Village on Saturday evening (March 25).
On-site paramedics attended to the fighter before he was taken to Queen's Medical Centre by ambulance. The event, which was scheduled to run from 5.30pm - 10pm, was hosted by Ultra White Collar Boxing.
A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “A charity boxing match was hosted at Harvey Hadden Sports Village on Saturday evening where sadly one of the participants was seriously injured during one of the opening bouts.
"On-site paramedics attended to him before an ambulance took him to Queen’s Medical Centre. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Ultra White Collar Boxing say that the event was stopped following the injury.
A spokesperson for Ultra White Collar Boxing said: "Everyone at Ultra White Collar Boxing was deeply saddened to learn a participant in our Nottingham event on Saturday March 25 suffered an injury which resulted in them being conveyed to hospital.
"Our thoughts are very much with the participant's family and friends and we will do everything we can to support them at this difficult time.
"We can confirm that subsequent to the participant being injured the event was stopped.
"With investigations now underway into this incident it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage other than to say that we will, of course, cooperate fully with all the relevant authorities."
