Boxer's trainer storms ring to punch opponent after fight is stopped in final round

Trainer Michael Sediane stormed the ring following his fighter's defeat to unload a barrage of punches on his helpless opponent.

Sithembiso Maduna was making his 13th career appearance in the ring, staging a second meeting with rival Jeff Magagne. Their opening fight ended with Maduna having his hand raised by split decision, with another national title shot on the line going into their rematch.

An incredible series of events unfolded with the pair fighting in the final exchanges of the contest. Magagne was in the corner with his opponent desperately hammering away at his guard in a bid to make a good final impression on the judges scorecards. He managed to get out the corner before the contest was halted at the end of the last round.

Magagne confidently celebrated in the face of his opponent flexing his arms in jubilation, before climbing up on to the ropes and raising his arms to salute the crowd. Maduna's trainer promptly leapt into the ring from the eventual victor's corner and waited for the star to climb down.

The pair are then seeing exchanging heated words in the corner following his celebrations, before Sediane decided to let his hands go. He lands a left and right hand as he wildly swings at the fighter who is desperately trying to cover up and avoid throwing any punches back.

No security guards intervened to prevent the beating from happening, with Magagne's trainer Alan Toweel Junior sticking just an arm out in a bid to prevent the vicious attack. Maduna stood desperately watching on as his trainer completely lost his cool, before the pictures from the television broadcast instead cut to a replay from the fight.

Following the violent scenes, the promoter of the event Tshele Kometsi – chairman of the Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association is said to have prevented Sediane from further damaging his reputation. Fans were also enraged by the events that unfolded and tried to spark more chaotic scenes by confronting Sediane, but were prevented from doing so.

Sediane had history of causing chaos at boxing events and furiously charged BSA provincial manager Phakamile Jacobs when his fighter Maduna faced national featherweight champion Asanda Ginqgi. The trainer did not become violent in his previous altercation but traded heated verbal barbs with the manager live on TV.
