A couple got the surprise of a lifetime when a box of M16 assault rifles was shipped to their house.
The military grade weapons were inside one of the 100 empty gun storage cases they had ordered from from a military surplus website to resell on eBay.
When the cases arrived and they were opened up, the couple from Houston, Texas found around a dozen M16 rifles.
Of the cases, one of them said: “It’s just a case, everybody can buy it online”, reports KXII.
They reported the haul to the authorities and within hours the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized the guns got a search warrant for the storage unit containing 100 more.
The Bureau has confirmed it is investigating along with the FBI, but did not say how many weapons had been recovered.
The M16 is the longest continuously-serving rifle in American military history.
The military surplus website where the couple bought the cases has said it removed other gun cases from their online store afterwards and notified the Department of Defense.
The couple chose not to be identified.
