Bowel Babe Deborah James says it has been ‘scary’ going to hospice care

Dame Deborah James admitted it had been “scary” moving to home hospice care.

The 40-year-old, known as Bowel Babe for her campaigning to raise awareness of bowel cancer, revealed earlier this month she had moved back to her parents home in Woking, Surrey, where she is receiving end-of-life care.

Writing on Instagram, she said: “Moving to home hospice care has been scary but I cannot tell you how kind and understanding everyone I’m meeting from @wsbhospices is.”

She also said she “can no longer walk” and needs massage therapy for swollen legs.

Earlier this week, she said she was “blown away” by the response to her new book after it shot to th top of the Amazon bestsellers’ list.

Her second book, titled How To Live When You Could Be Dead, will be published on August 1 and through pre-orders, the book has risen to number one on the Amazon list.

Dame Deborah has raised more than £6.4 million through her online fundraiser for cancer charities.

She revealed she has been secretly working on her own clothing collection and the first item she will be releasing is a T-shirt for charity.

Her first book, F*** You Cancer: How To Face The Big C, Live Your Life And Still Be Yourself, was published in 2018.

Her JustGiving page reached the milestone after donations from almost 300,000 supporters, including high-profile figures such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

She was recently honoured with a damehood for her “tireless campaigning” on the issue of cancer, and was presented with her damehood by the Duke of Cambridge at her family home.

The title would normally be announced as part of the New Year Honours or to mark the Queen’s birthday but can be given at other times in exceptional circumstances.
