Bounty sweets will be removed from some Celebration tins this year as part of a Christmas trial.
The decision was made following a study which revealed that 20% of customers dislike the coconut flavoured treats. Over half of all respondents said they would be disappointed to find there were only Bounty sweets left in their Celebrations tin.
Parent company Mars Wrigley will phase in special “No Bounty” tubs across selected Tesco stores in response to the survey’s findings. The tubs will instead have extra amounts of more popular sweets, such as Galaxy, Mars, Milky Way, and Maltesers.
However, the chocolate company ruled out a full removal of the Bounty sweet for the near future. The study, which was conducted amongst 2000 people, revealed that it was still a firm favourite for 18% of recipients.
The No Bounty tins will be made available across 40 Tesco stores in the UK across November and December. It is not yet known if the initiative will be rolled out in Tesco stores in Ireland.
Customers will be able to exchange regular Celebration tubs bought in store for the Bounty free option at the till. There was a similar initiative last year in place, which allowed unhappy customers to swap Bounty sweets for the coveted Malteser chocolate after the Christmas period.
This is the second surprising revelation from the chocolate industry in recent months. Nestle made headlines after confirming that Quality Street’s brightly coloured wrappers would be scrapped ahead of Christmas. The company made the decision in an effort to become more environmentally conscious.
