The deeper into the 2022-23 season the Boston Celtics get without their starting center Robert Williams III, the more it seems they may not need reinforcements in their frontcourt. Backup big man Luke Kornet has been proving a reliable option off of the bench to help the Celtics weather Timelord’s absence and after another double-digit scoring night from the 7-foot center, teammate Marcus Smart sang the Vanderbilt alum’s praises in the wake of Boston’s win over the Washington Wizards on Sunday.
“You can’t teach seven feet,” joked the Flower Mount native after the win. “You can’t coach that … Luke’s a great player, he’s a smart player — he understands the game.”
“You’ve got to get out there like that, like Rob (Williams); it makes it easier for us, it’s an outlet for us.”

“We’re thankful for that,” suggested Smart. “Luke has been doing what he’s supposed to — he’s been putting the work in. It’s been showing; we give credit to Luke. We love him, we’re proud of him.”
