In a recent interview with JJ Reddick, the host of the “Old Man and the 3” podcast, Boston Celtics future All-Star point guard Derrick White discussed the keys to being an impactful NBA player without filling up the stat sheet. For one, the Colorado native explained how developing a team-first mindset and embracing his role has allowed him to focus on making winning plays that don’t always show up in the box score.
He also credits his time in San Antonio for teaching him the importance of impacting the game defensively and letting his offense develop naturally. To the delight of his coaches, White is focused on helping the team win, not chasing stats.
The Colorado alum added that great role players balance confidence in their abilities with embracing what the team needs and always working to incrementally improve their game.
