Boston Celtics trade rumors with the Brooklyn Nets over Kevin Durant ‘not fresh talks’

This has been an interesting offseason with a lot of drama for several teams. The Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets are reportedly in talks over Kevin Durant. This isn’t much of a surprise as the Nets seem to be actively shopping the two-time NBA champ. But in a twist, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst (per AZ Sports’ Sarah Kezele) believes “that these are not fresh talks”.

Windhorst also says on AZ Sports “I don’t think the Nets are involved in active talks right now”. The Nets are looking to buy as much leverage as they can to attempt to get the amount of talent and draft capital that they believe Durant warrants to rebuild the team.

The Celtics would have to give up Jaylen Brown and Derrick White and a few picks just to get into the ballpark of what the Nets are looking for. There are even talks of Marcus Smart needing to be involved to get the deal done.

Boston should not take a risk on Durant who has not shown that he can win at the highest level without an established team of hall of famers around him. In the biggest moments, he has shrunk throughout his career.

It is not wise for the Celtics to pay a king’s ransom for him, especially if it means giving up one of your cornerstone pieces in Brown. Either way, the Celtics should look elsewhere for that piece that will get them over the top — should they even need one.
