Boston Celtics rumored to be interested in Golden State Warriors’ first-round pick

If you weren’t ready for rumbles about the Boston Celtics and the 2022 NBA draft, you’d better buckle up, because they are already heating up with more than a day to go until the event in question kicks off at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City on Thursday night.

The latest of them is word from Heavy’s Sean Deveney, who reports Boston might try to get their hands on the Golden State Warriors’ first round draft pick. Per Deveney, the Celtics have “an interest in bringing in low-cost players who can contribute, and there could be a handful of polished, older players available late in this year’s first round,” which could make the former Finals foes natural trade partners.

With the Warriors laden with young talent they will struggle to find playing time to develop and the NBA’s biggest luxury tax bill, it seems possible such a deal might appeal to both sides.

According to Deveney, the New York Knicks might also have interest in the No. 28 pick, and that Golden State may be looking for future second-rounders in return.

The Celtics currently control their own second-rounder for 2022, as well as a trio of seconds owed them by other teams in 2023.
