After a strong week of play, the Boston Celtics retake the top spot in the NBA’s power rankings for this week. Owners of the league’s No. 2 offense and No. 3 defense, they have been a nightmare for opposing teams on both ends. “The Celtics took care of business over the last three games of their seven-game homestand and then hit the road, picking up an important win in Miami,” writes NBA.com’s John Schuhmann.
Still, there has been some slippage compared to last season on offense, which Schuhmann notes, writing that the Celtics “beat the Grizzlies by 40 points eight days ago, but that’s their only double-digit win in their last eight games.”
A high standard, perhaps — but a fair one for the team with the league’s best record.

Will Boston lean into this momentum after the All-Star break, or will the lapse in games that count have a deleterious effect?
Only time will tell, but it would behoove the Celtics to build some momentum as the postseason draws closer.
