Boston Celtics reportedly ‘preferred landing spot’ for Hawks vet Danilo Gallinari

The Boston Celtics seem to be inching closer to a deal with veteran wing Danilo Gallinari for the team’s $6.5 million mini- midlevel exception (MLE) according to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer as the first hour of the 2022 NBA free agency period finished up, with the Chicago Bulls potentially able to offer him more money if being a less attractive destination in the Italian’s estimation.

“Sounds like Danilo Gallinari will be deciding between Chicago and Boston for his next team,” wrote Fischer. “The Bulls have much of the full MLE to offer, roughly $8M AAV and a hair more than the Celtics.” Previously, Gallinari had also been linked to the Miami Heat ahead of the start of free agency, but that team seems to have fallen out of the running for the former Hawk’s services.

Per the B/R reporter, “Boston appears to be Gallo’s preferred landing spot.”

But, it remains to be seen how this particular Celtics signing target assesses his situation — and whether he values a likely larger role and more money or a chance at an NBA title.
