Boston Celtics earn a statement win vs. the 76ers on Bill Russell’s tribute night

In their first game of the season, the Boston Celtics hosted the Philadelphia 76ers on opening night Tuesday. They also honored the late, great Bill Russell and his vast legacy on and off the court through his advocacy and activism that transcended the game of basketball.

For the Celtics, the game served as a testing point under interim head coach Joe Mazzulla, as they learned and adapted to slight changes in the style of play. After the dust settled, the Celtics walked away with a 126-117 win and looked very confident and composed doing so.

New Boston floor general Malcolm Brogdon was a massive boost to the Celtics’ rotation, and recently signed big men Noah Vonleh and Blake Griffin contributed with no Robert Williams III available and veteran forward Al Horford getting into early foul trouble.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear the hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast give their initial reactions to Boston’s big win on opening night over Philly.
