Bosses at an Ayrshire care home say they are “absolutely delighted” with the outcome of a Care Inspectorate report.
Representatives from the care watchdog visited Fairknowe House in Maybole at the start of this month as part of an unannounced inspection.
And the Care Inspectorate graded the home, in the town's Cargill Road, as ‘good’ across four quality indicators.
The home was graded ‘good’ in terms of supporting people’s wellbeing, in its leadership, the quality of staff and in the planning of care and support.
In 2021, Ayrshire Live told how the home was criticised for its hygiene standards during the Covid pandemic and labelled ‘weak’ by the scrutiny body across two quality indicators.
Now the ongoing hard work to improve the quality of care provision at the home is paying off.
A message on the care home’s social media page read: “Some of you may know that we had our care inspection last week which was unannounced.
“Today, we found out that Fairknowe has received an overall grade of 4 (good) which we are absolutely delighted about!
“We still have a lot of work to do and we will continue to work hard to achieve goals set to us. But we would like to thank everyone for their continued support – residents, families, visitors and other health professionals.”
Bosses have also thanked their staff for all their hard work and dedication.
Fairknowe House is registered to provide a care home service to a maximum of 40 older people who may have physical needs and/or dementia. There were 33 people utilising the service when the Care Inspectorate visited.
In making its evaluations of the service, the Care Inspectorate spoke with 10 people using it, and four of their family members, liaised with staff and management, observed practice and daily life, reviewed documents and met with visiting health professionals.
According to inspectors, staff cared for people with “kindness and compassion”, they had developed “warm relationships” with the people they support and people had been supported to maintain “good contact” with family and friends during the pandemic.
The Care Inspectorate said the home has “several strengths” which “impacted positively” on outcomes for people and “clearly outweighed” areas for improvement.
The report goes on: “People living in Fairknowe House were supported by staff who were familiar with their needs. Staff were good at promoting peoples’ choices and preferences. They showed compassion and kindness towards the people they supported.
“People told us that staff were friendly. One person said, 'the staff are lovely, they look after me well'."
