The boss of Chester Zoo says a stranger at black-tie event once told him not to hire anyone black or gay.

Jamie Christon, who is gay, said the shocking comment was only made a few years ago.

The 50-year-old CEO was at a black-tie dinner and a stranger approached him and said: “I hope you don’t employ black or gay people”.
