Boris Johnson is to take a short Easter break at Chequers this week, No 10 has said, following his surprise visit to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
The Prime Minister returned to the UK early Sunday morning after a surprise visit to Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Saturday.
He will maintain a lighter workload but the Prime Minister’s deputy spokesperson said on Monday that Mr Johnson will spend at least two days this week at his country retreat so he can get some rest and spend time with family.
But Downing Street insisted Mr Johnson will continue to receive updates - particularly on Ukraine - and will be participating in meetings throughout.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister was not immediately able to confirm what role Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab would play while Mr Johnson was having some down time.
No 10 also disclosed further details about Mr Johnson’s five hour trip to Kyiv at the weekend. The PM’s spokesperson said on arrival in the Ukrainian capital he held an hour long meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky followed by a 30 minute walk around the city’s Independence Square where they met with locals and passed memorials for victims of the war.
They later held a full bilateral meeting over dinner which included officials and where they ate a starter of goats cheese salad and chicken soup, a main of roast beef and a dessert of cherry dumplings.
