Boris Johnson has written a lengthy letter to his fellow Conservative MPs ahead of the confidence vote this (June 6) evening. He has asked for the support of his fellow MPs as he has acknowledged how "painful" the last few months have been for the party due to 'Partygate'.
At around 9pm tonight, the result of a confidence vote in the Prime Minister - which has been triggered after enough MPs requested the secret ballot - will be announced. Addressing his colleagues, Mr Johnson wrote: "I know that over recent months I have come under a great deal of fire, and I know that experience has been painful for the whole party."
He has also accepted that some of the fire towards him has been "fair" and has also said that he has made "significant changes" as a result of the last few months. He has labelled the confidence vote this evening as a "golden chance" to put the Partygate scandal behind the Tories.
