Ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s dad, Stanley, has said there is "unfinished business" and rejected the idea of a general election.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain to talk to hosts Adil Ray and Kate Garraway, the politician's dad discussed what could be next for his son following the resignation of Liz Truss yesterday. Boris was reported to have been away on holiday when the news broke.
But now, he seems to be putting himself in the running to once again claim the role of Prime Minister - and he has the full backing of his dad.

Speaking of the whereabouts of his son, Stanley said: “I think he’s on a plane coming back…” Adil then asked: “Is he coming back early?”
Stanley added: “I can’t tell you. My view is this, I am a proud elector in this business… I will have a vote… I’m going to listen to what the candidates have to say, this is a serious job…
"And I will say, ‘Okay, I think I’m going to support Boris, I’m pretty sure I’m going to support Boris - I’m just speaking now as a voter - but I want to be sure that he’s going to stick to the 2019 manifesto.
"And I particularly want to be sure that, because I’m an environmentalist, that he gives a very strong promise not to proceed with Rees-Mogg’s absurd bill which is coming before the house again next week… which will lead to the scrapping of 750 environmental laws and heavens knows what other."
Adil challenged that Rees-Mogg is supposed to be leading Boris’ campaign to return as PM. Stanley said: “Well, I’m very sorry to hear it. I hope Boris takes a really strong line with Rees-Mogg…“
When Kate suggested that Boris can’t even rely on his dad’s vote, Stanley argued: “Well, I’m a serious political person…
"I have been campaigning for the environment for the whole of my life. I'm really struck by what's happened and I think we need to make a big push now. And Boris did make a big push on climate change, a big push on biodiversity. So yes, I’m for him."
On if there should be a General Election Stanley said: “I think not at this point because if Boris is the candidate, he can maintain quite plausibly… that he is carrying forward the manifesto of 2019… and it would be perfectly reasonable to go ahead and do that if he happens to be the one that emerges to stand.”
Adil raised the point that some Tory MPs have said that should Boris be re-elected, they would defect or run independently, and therefore that would be hugely damaging to the party. Stanley said: “I disagree. There was unfinished business.”
He also added: “If Boris becomes the candidate and if Boris wins that election and he returns to Downing Street, I would have thought it would be perfectly reasonable for him to lose the ex-Prime Minister's allowance. So that would be quite a saving for the country to vote for Boris now.”
