A top lawyer has said Boris Johnson could face fines of thousands of pounds for lockdown breaches. Boris Johnson, along with chancellor Rishi Sunak, have both been fined for breaking the strict covid restrictions imposed on the country during the pandemic.
Both, along with the Prime Minister's wife Carrie, were issued with fixed penalty notices by the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday for breaking the rules in June 2020. All three confirmed they had paid their fines and apologised.
However human rights barrister Adam Wagner has said Boris Johnson could end up paying more than £10,000 in fines over the Downing Street parties if more were issued. Speaking on Sky News, Mr Wagner said: “Each one doubles, so if the Prime Minister attended six gatherings and five of which he’s at risk of getting a fixed penalty notice for – if he get’s a fixed penalty notice in order for each one then he could end up paying over £10,000.”
