Borgue Community Council is to promote the benefits of cycling at a free event at Gatehouse.
The activity day on February 17 will be staged at two locations – and is open to communities across the area.
Sustrans I Bike Communities volunteers will be at Gatehouse Community Centre to take visitors on e-bike tasters on a short route nearby.
And for those who prefer a standard bike Wheels of Fleet over the river is offering short loans of bicycles for a spin round the town.
Community Council member Carol Ryall told the News the sessions were aimed both at cycle novices and those returning to the activity after a gap.
She said: “If you don’t feel confident about cycling and need help to develop or improve your cycling skills, come and look at various bikes and learn more from our workshops.
“And if you don’t feel ready for a taster on an e-bike or standard cycle, you can find out how to sign up for free beginners’ classes.
“If you think you need some support before cycling, talk to Annick, Sustrans’ senior project officer who manages the I Bike project, about having free practical sessions to build up your confidence.
“For those who do feel confident, there’s also a group ride ‘roon the water’ starting at 11.30am from the community centre.”
The 10am to 1pm event also features repair and maintenance workshops designed to help cyclists prepare their bikes before going out on a ride and how to do quick repairs on the road.
Carol added: “A few other services are on offer too. We had intended to provide security marking at our November event, but weren’t able to, so if you already own a bike you can bring it to the community centre and get it done this time.
“You can also get repairs advice from Wheels of Fleet and for anyone thinking of buying an e-bike, we have details of a government funded scheme providing interest-free loans.”
All bike loans are free on the day, are on a first come first served basis and are weather dependent.
Workshop places are limited, so must be booked in advance.
