Border crisis escalates as record-breaking 300,000 migrants cross, fake passports used

Record-breaking month with over 300,000 migrant crossings at the border.

Record Number of Migrant Crossings Reported at U.S. Border

In a staggering turn of events, border agents have reported a record-breaking month at the U.S.-Mexico border, with over 300,000 migrant crossings occurring in December alone. This unprecedented number, according to Border Patrol sources, marks the highest ever recorded in a single month. Adding to the concern is the revelation that immigrants from Guinea are resorting to using fake passports to pose as minors and gain entry into the country.

Former acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf expressed his alarm at these developments, emphasizing the overwhelming strain placed on border patrol agents. The smugglers and cartels have exploited the astronomical numbers, coaching individuals on various techniques to successfully cross the border, including altering passports. This situation not only raises concerns for public safety but also poses a significant national security threat.

Barely a blip on the radar during the Trump administration, where 60,000 to 70,000 crossings were seen as cause for concern, the border crisis has escalated under the Biden administration. It is evident that the broken system has worsened over the years, with 2021 setting a historic benchmark, surpassing 2020, and now 2022 surpassing 2021 in terms of migrant crossings. This concerning trend shows no signs of abating, painting a picture of a faulty border management strategy.

Of particular note is the influx of migrants from West Africa, highlighting that this is not solely a regional issue. People from all corners of the globe are attempting to enter the United States through illegal means. The prevailing policy of providing a 'notice to appear' to individuals illegally present in the country is a clear violation of existing laws, further exacerbating the situation.

As 2023 unfolds, with an upcoming election year on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether the Biden administration will implement any substantial changes to their border policy. Calls for reinstituting programs like remain in Mexico, which proved effective in curbing illegal immigration, persist. However, recent efforts by the administration, including discussions held in Mexico City, have yielded no concrete policy adjustments or enforcement measures.

The reinstatement of catch and release policies, wherein thousands of individuals are released into the interior of the country daily, stands as a catastrophic decision. This move directly opposes the previously effective 'Remain in Mexico' program, which the Biden administration dismantled, citing its lack of belief in its effectiveness.

As concerns grow and pressure mounts, calls for the implementation of alternative enforcement measures are growing louder. The fate of remain in Mexico remains uncertain, as the current administration has expressed no intention of resurrecting the program. The absence of a viable alternative only adds to the troubling reality that the situation at the border shows no signs of improvement.

With a daunting number of illegal crossings, the U.S.-Mexico border crisis continues to mar the nation's efforts to effectively manage immigration. As the year progresses and elections loom, the Biden administration faces a critical choice: to confront and rectify the broken system or risk further exacerbating the problem at hand. The eyes of the nation remain fixed on the border, anxiously awaiting meaningful action from those in power.
