Border battle escalates as Democrats urge federalization of Texas National Guard

Democrats want President Biden to federalize Texas National Guard.

The ongoing border battle in Texas has escalated with Democrats urging President Biden to federalize the state's National Guard. Governor Abbott of Texas staunchly defends his state's actions, asserting their right to protect themselves against what he calls a 'migrant invasion.' A recent poll indicates that only 18% of the country approves of President Biden's handling of the situation at the southern border. While many Democrats are calling on the president to take a firmer stance against Governor Abbott, the governor argues that he is upholding the law and protecting his state's interests.

Congressman Joaquin Castro points out that Governor Abbott is using the Texas National Guard to obstruct and create chaos at the border. Castro proposes that if Governor Abbott defies the recent Supreme Court ruling, President Biden should establish sole federal control over the Texas National Guard. In response, Governor Abbott accuses President Biden of being a lawless president and highlights the executive branch's constitutional duty to enforce federal laws, including immigration laws. He argues that President Biden has failed to enforce these laws and, as a result, has contributed to record-breaking levels of illegal immigration.

The situation at the border has become increasingly concerning, with nearly 100,000 migrants escaping Border Patrol and disappearing since October. This amounts to approximately 800 individuals per day. The gravity of this issue has caught the attention of the White House, leading President Biden to engage in negotiations with both Republicans and Democrats in an effort to address the crisis.

The White House acknowledges that there is indeed a southern border, and the fact that individuals can cross it every day is a matter of concern. They emphasize that efforts are being made to address the issue, with the Department of Homeland Security working diligently to maximize their processes and enhance border security. The White House spokesperson states that the president has requested additional funding amounting to $6 billion in a supplemental bill to strengthen border security. They stress that the administration is actively working with Congress to find a resolution as they recognize the complexity of the situation.

The Democratic-controlled Senate has introduced a new border bill that would allow up to 5,000 migrants to enter the country each day. However, this has sparked conservative backlash in the House. The contentious nature of the proposed bill highlights the ongoing divide over immigration policies within the country.

As the border battle continues, it remains to be seen how President Biden will respond to the Democrats' calls for federalizing the Texas National Guard and whether any effective solutions can be reached amid this complex and contentious issue.
