Boots has issued an urgent recall of Kids Daily Health Multivitamins Strawberry Flavour Gummies over fears it could make children sick. The retailer has been forced to recall them as some gummies were said to have been mistakenly packed with ones that contained soya, meaning they were unsuitable for anyone with a soya allergy.
The inclusion had not been made clear on the packaging, and for those with the allergy it could mean vomiting, stomach cramps, indigestion, diarrhoea and, in severe cases, anaphylaxis. Boots says the gummies will be orange in colour instead of red.
For clarity, the company said that the recalled packs contained 30 gummies, had the batch code 82221103 and best before date of May 17, 2024. Children allergic to soya were being advised not to eat those particular gummies, which retail at £5.
Batch Code: 82221103
Best Before: 17 May 2024
Consumers who have bought the gummies are being advised to return them to the nearest Boots store for a full refund. The company added that people would not need a receipt to get the money back and that it was happy to answer any questions on the Boots Customer Care line on 0800 9150004.
Boots said in a statement on the recall notice: “We are recalling Boots Kids Daily Health Multivitamins Strawberry Flavour 30 Gummies due to it containing soya which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.”
The Food Standards Agency website lists all potentially dangerous items that have been removed or recalled. Recall notices are displayed in stores if a product has been pulled from the shelves.
When a supermarket product is recalled, a receipt is generally not required to secure a refund. But if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have responsibility for the recall action.
