Boots has slashed the amount of Advantage Points you can get when you buy in store and online from today.
Going forward, Advantage Card shoppers will get 25% less for every £1 they spend in-store, earning 3p rather than the current 4p.
Boots announced the change back in March and said it was in “response to the changing way that customers are using the loyalty scheme”.
The major shake-up came as the beauty and pharmacy retailer said customers wanted "on-the-spot lower prices and instant value".
Instead of the higher points, customers will now receive an instant 10% discount when they shop for Boots own-brand products with the loyalty card.
The discount will be valid on over 6,000 products although there are some exclusions, including pharmaceuticals and Boots exclusive brands, such as No7.
Some of the items you can get 10% off include:
- Boots Everyday Cucumber face wipes - £1 or 90p when bought with an Advantage Card.
- Boots Collagen Serum - usually £12 - or £10.80 with Price Advantage
- 17 Another Level Volume Mascara - £2 or £1.80 with Price Advantage
- Boots Good Gut Live Friendly Bacteria - £10.50 or £9.45 with Price Advantage
- Boots Allergy Barrier Nasal Spray - £7.99 or £7.19 with Price Advantage
- Boots Glow tanning drops -£5 or £4.50 with Price Advantage
- Boots Everyday 8 months’ supply Vitamins range (Multivitamins) - £4.50 or £4.05 with Price Advantage
- Boots DermaCare Daily Moisturising Cream - £4.50 or £4.05 with Price Advantage
- Soltan Kids Once Suncare Roll On SPF50+ 50ml - £6.50 or £5.85 with Price Advantage
- Dual Defence Nasal spray - £5.99 or £5.39 with Price Advantage
- Boots Every day Cotton Wool - 60p or 54p with Price Advantage
Some customers will not be affected by the points cut - those over-60 receive eight points for every £1 spent on Boots Own Brand and Boots Parenting Club members also get eight points for every £1 spent on baby.
Boots also confirmed to customers that there will be "more opportunities" to earn double or extra points with new promotions and campaigns.
Commenting on the change, Pete Markey, chief marketing officer at Boots said: “Customers want instant savings so we’ve expanded Price Advantage to a huge 1,000 lines each month, with savings on some of our big name and most popular products.
"And with more customers choosing our own label products, we’re also adding an always on, instant 10% off our Boots Brand range, giving Boots Advantage Card holders money off 1000s of quality products from our trusted Boots brand.”
In addition to this, Boots has also extended its price lock to over 400 "essential" products until August this year.
