Boots will change the way that their Advantage Cards work as customers are set to receive fewer loyalty points from early May.
The pharmacy is making a shake-up to the popular scheme that will also introduce a customer discount on own-brand products. The change, which will come into effect in May, will see Advantage Card customers receiving 3p instead of 4p in loyalty points for every pound that they spend.
However, card holders will receive a discount of 10 percent on Boots own-brand products in a bid to offer customers 'even more opportunities' to save.
Boots says the change will come into place in early May, meaning shoppers have about two months to continue collecting points that are worth 4p for every pound.
While customers will receive fewer points for every pound, shoppers' current point balances will not be affected. The change will only apply to new points collected after the change comes into place.
The retailer reports that over 70 percent of Advantage Card members regularly shop from Boots ranges - and that one in five items in card holders' baskets is an own-brand product.
On an FAQ page, Boots said: "We have responded to feedback from our customers on how they would like to shop and get great value from Boots.
"We understand that more customers are looking at access instant savings, so offering 10% off our Boots own brand range will give even more opportunities to save.
"We understand that many customers still love saving up their points for big purchases in the future, so will continue to offer 3p worth of points for every £1 spent at Boots."
There are 6,000 products in the Boots own-brand range that shoppers will soon be able to pick up at a discounted rate.
Boots Advantage Card holders were notified of the change in an email that states: "We're making changes to the Advantage Card terms.
"From May 2023, Advantage Card holders will now get 10% off Boots own-brand products, and collect 3p for every £1 you spend.
"You'll get to keep the number of points you've already collected, and they'll still be worth the same amount."
Pete Markey, Chief Marketing Officer at Boots, commented: "Boots Advantage Card is one of the original and most generous loyalty programmes, and now we are making it better - to fit our customers changing needs and the way they now want to shop."
