Bootle Music Festival cancelled after 'biblical storm' hits region

Bootle Music Festival was cancelled and crowds were evacuated after a "biblical" storm swept across the region.

The festival was due to return to the Lock and Quay pub on Irlam Road in Bootle for day two on Saturday evening, with bands including The Zutons and The Farm. However, organisers were forced to evacuate the festival after being hit by "adverse weather" conditions.

Merseyside was battered by thunderstorms on Saturday as the sunshine was quickly replaced with torrential rain.

In a short statement on Facebook, organisers of Bootle Music Festival, Lock and Quay said: "Apologies to absolutely everyone, but tonight’s event has had to be evacuated due to the adverse weather.

"We had a huge site to evacuate under very harsh conditions. We will be in contact ASAP with what happens next."

Indie band the Farm took to Twitter to share a copy of the setlist they were due to play before tonight's festival was cancelled.

Another festivalgoer tweeted: "Gutted that @BootleMusic festival was cancelled due to the lightning today, been looking forward to it for ages. Home now soaked through."

In response to a tweet about the festival, one man said: "Did someone mention biblical last night ? #thunderstorms

"Thanks to all the staff and organisers @BootleMusic see you for part two next year @ZutonsThe."

Another said: "Good Saturday, shame the Lock & Quay Bootle Music Fest had to stop early due to rain and thunder...didn't get to see The Zutons - maybe one day I'll get to see them #thezutons."
