The Dublin ladies football team has received a major boost with the confirmation that Lauren Magee will not be returning to Australia for another AFLW campaign.
A star of their four-in-a-row run from 2018-21, she had been juggling football with a career in Aussie Rules since 2020 when she joined Melbourne Demons.
While Down Under she was teammates with fellow Dubs Sinéad Goldrick and Niamh McEvoy.
She has been back playing for her county in recent months and given how the upcoming AFLW season has been extended to the point that it'll be nigh on impossible for anyone to commit to both codes, she has chosen to end her career with the Demons and focus on helping Dublin to regain the All-Ireland title from neighbours Meath.
Indeed she came off the bench on Saturday to help them close out a hard-fought victory over their old rivals at Croke Park.
Melbourne AFLW list manager Todd Patterson wished her well upon hearing of her decision.
“It’s always challenging for international athletes, so we are fully supportive of Lauren’s decision to step away from AFLW.
“We thank Lauren for all that she sacrificed in trying to learn a new game a long way from home.
“We wish her all the best in her future pursuits, particularly with Dublin.”
While a member of The Demons, Magee lined out 11 times and helped them to reach last year's Grand Final where they ultimately lost out to Adelaide Crows who boast Ailish Considine among their ranks.
