Bookmakers cast their verdict on Sunderland's League One play-off hopes

The bookmakers believes Sunderland are the outsiders when it comes to promotion via the League One play-offs this season. The Black Cats have twice fallen at the play-off hurdle during their time in the third tier.

Jack Ross guided the Wearsiders to the play-off final where they were beaten by Charlton and Lee Johnson's side were beaten in the semi-final by Lincoln City last season. Alex Neil knows his side have a poor record in the play-offs but the Sunderland head coach has done a fine job at grinding out results since his arrival.

According to oddschecker, Sheffield Wednesday are the favourites to win promotion at 2/1 , while the Black Cats are 3/1. Both sides have one one game apiece this season when it comes to head-to-head fixtures.

Darren Moore's side won their first meeting at Hillsborough 3-0 before Sunderland thumped thee Owls 5-0 in the return fixture at the Stadium of Light. Wednesday are the favourites heading into the double header, but that may just work in Sunderland's favour for once.

In the reverse fixture, MK Dons are 11/4 favourites for promotion, making them the bookies second favourite, while Wycombe Wanderers are 4/1 to win promotion back to the Championship. *Odds are accurate at the time of writing.
