Bookies refuse to pay out £1,000 win on 40/1 Premier League bet due to a 'mistake'

Bookmakers Coral has refused to pay out £1,000 on a 40/1 Premier League bet to grandad Phil Worthington who thought he was due a windfall.

Retired electrician Phil had put £25 on Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea to finish in the top three and Norwich, Burnley, and Watford to be relegated.

He put the bet on in January when Newcastle United were bottom of the league. The Manchester Evening News reports that Phil, 72, from Stockport in Greater Manchester, thought he was quids in when his prediction became reality at the end of the season.
