Most homes tend to blend into their surroundings and have similar designs to other buildings nearby.
Areas of England such as the Cotswolds are well-known for their distinct and beautiful style of architecture.
But one house in Michigan, USA, has taken a different approach.
The property in West Bloomfield has a bright blue roof and has been dubbed the ‘Smurf House’.
The seven-bed and eight-bathroom home has been listed on the market for a whopping price of more than $4.2million or around £3.5million.
Built in 1920, the 7,476 sq ft house was listed on property website Zillow on Saturday, May 14.

The unusual features of the house have attracted much interest and pictures of it have gone viral online.
The eye-catching home looks distinctly different from the natural lakeside landscape that surrounds it.
One Twitter user said: "This house going viral in Zillow circles belongs to my uncle and for 15 years I have told everyone I know not to go inside because it is haunted as s**t.
"Cannot overstate how much I stayed for one weekend in the mid-aughts and something still lingers in the corner of my eye."
Another joked: "I'm so old all I can think about is how much the roofing bill will be."
The ‘Smurf House’ was built on 2.92 acres of land with 175 feet of Pine Lake's sandy shoreline and 187 feet of Pine Lake Golf Course.
But the bonkers bright blue roof gives the $4,199,000 Cotswold-style property a distinctly cartoonish appearance.
There is a 100-foot dock on the property that extends into the water offering the chance for any potential owner to enjoy breakfast on the lake in the peaceful surroundings.
The house also has a gigantic seven-car garage - plenty of room for petrolheads to securely store their prized possessions.
To complete the set up, the garage has a bar where visitors can be entertained.
The previous owners of the ‘Smurf House’ lived at 2690 Pine Lake Rd and spent a lot of time renovating the property.
However, they didn’t change everything and many of the original 1920’s light fixtures are original, offering a link to the home’s past.
Estate agents Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel is managing the sale of the property which has a total of nine fireplaces for those cosy winter evenings.
Inside, there are three floors decorated with ceramics, stone, leaded glass and plaster.
It is thought that the bizarre roof has always been bright blue except for a short time in the 1940s when the entire house was painted green.
The roof is made of stained golden cedar shake which is thought to have a useful life of around 85 years.
Designers of the house gave the roof its distinctive bright blue colour and wavy wall design to match the water and texture of the lake.
But the interiors remain more Downton Abbey-like with a formal downstairs ballroom with terrazzo flooring and small stage for a three-piece band.
While the ‘Smurf House’ might not be Lord Grantham’s cup of tea, fans of the Smurfs will be overjoyed at the chance to live in a house which appears to celebrate the iconic cartoon.
