Players and members of the Texas A&M coaching staff were forced to evacuate Thursday due to a bomb threat made toward Kyle Field, police said, according to Travis Brown of The Eagle newspaper.
The university issued a statement confirming the incident occurred after “an anonymous call was received through Texas A&M University Technology Services Help Desk Central that made reference to the stadium.” Campus police sent out a “Code Maroon” alert notifying the campus of the threat at 1:25 p.m. local time, and later sent another at 3:45 p.m announcing all facilities had been “cleared by law enforcement.”
The school also noted there will be no additional information released at this time as there is an active investigation into the matter.
As officials and employees evacuated the stadium and the Bright Football complex, Aggies football coach Jimbo Fisher pulled up to the stadium in his truck and talked to members of his coaching staff. The team was scheduled to begin practice at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to Brown.
Instead of the team practicing on Thursday and being off the remainder of the week due to Texas A&M’s open week, the Aggies' practice was later cancelled, per Brown.
Texas A&M (3–3, 1–2 in SEC) is coming off a 24–20 loss to the Crimson Tide on Saturday. After the bye week, the Aggies will return to action on the road against South Carolina on Oct. 22.
