People were forced to leave their homes after a police warrant led to army bomb squad being called out to a neighbourhood in Liverpool. Merseyside police arrived after being granted a warrant on Netherby Street in Dingle at around 8.20pm on September 19.
Officers thoroughly searched the home and shortly after a cordon was assembled on the street, the Liverpool Echo reports. There was a heavy police presence surrounding the cordon, leaving residents perplexed as to what was going on.
Royal Army Ordnance Cops appeared at the scene at around 10.15pm and a small proportion of neighbouring properties in the street were evacuated. When Army officers arrived the cordon was extended to the top of Cockburn Street.
No other emergency services were called to the scene. Army officers could be seen going in and out of a property, and one was seen wearing a protective mask and leaving with a white envelope and a package.
Officers seemed to be investigating the package in their vehicle as police watched on. People living on the street said they heard a noise outside their homes before seeing police raiding a home.
One woman said: "They have been here for ages, they have only just put a cordon in place though." Another person on the street said: "The house was raided and I've been told they're waiting for the bomb squad to arrive. People have been evacuated and were trying to find places to stay for the night."
A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "A warrant was executed at an address on Netherby Street at 8.20pm and officers remain on scene. A full search of the property is currently being carried out and a small number of neighbouring properties have been evacuated while enquiries are continuing."
