Bomb hoax suspect at Peter Kay show ordered to leave courtroom due to outbursts

  • A 19-year-old, Omar Majed, has been remanded in custody following an alleged bomb hoax that led to the evacuation and cancellation of a Peter Kay comedy show at Birmingham's Utilita Arena last Friday.
  • Majed appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, and is accused of communicating to a police officer and others information, which he knew or believed to be false, that a bomb was present in the arena.
  • The alleged hoax caused thousands of fans to be evacuated from the arena, which had an expected crowd of nearly 13,000 people for the performance.
  • During the court hearing, Majed was repeatedly asked to be quiet by District Judge Michelle Smith and was eventually ordered to leave the courtroom after shouting that proposed bail conditions were "not acceptable."
  • West Midlands Police confirmed that nothing suspicious was found during searches of the arena, and Majed's case has been adjourned to Birmingham Crown Court on 1 June, with his bail application refused.
