The crumbling remains of bomb factory buildings were scoured yesterday as the hunt for a missing Ayrshire man continued.
Members of the public forensically searched the grounds of ICI Nobel in Ardeer, Stevenston in a bid to trace Corry Ferguson, who's been missing for almost two weeks.
The 26-year-old Saltcoats man vanished from his home on Tuesday, March 1 with the last confirmed sighting of the man in a Spar shop on Wheatley Road in the town.
Around 100 volunteers searched the vast abandoned landscape, that was once home to an explosives factory, with some even taking to rooftops as part of the hunt.
A number of the search party could be seen on the decaying rafters of Africa House, once a staff canteen at the former bomb factory.
A drone was also used as part of the search too, organisers said.
Corry's family have set up a designated Facebook page for searching for the missing young man called 'Missing Person Corry Ferguson'.
They posted on the page: "Absolutely overwhelming with the amount of people who turned out today to search for our boy. Easily 100 strong, yous are all amazing.
"Massive thank you The Shack for providing an endless supply of much needed hot drinks, toilet facilities and most of all friendly welcoming faces. Yous are amazing.
"There was some miscommunication regarding police asking some of the search parties to leave, this wasn’t the case. As far as we are aware some people stumbled on private property and the owner contacted the police or something along those lines. We don’t want this to deter people from further searches!
"Thanks again from all Corry's family we couldn’t get through the days without the support from all of yous."
Corry is described as white, around 6ft in height and of slim build with brown hair. When he was last seen he was wearing a black parka jacket, a green hooded top, grey jogging trousers, white trainers and a black baseball cap.
Detectives hunting for Corry said on Thursday that they had drafted in specialist advisors as concern increases for the man.
Inspector Barry McNaught said last week: “We are extremely concerned for Corry’s welfare as it is totally out of character for him to go missing and not to keep in contact with his family. If you have seen him, please get in touch.
“Specialist search advisors supporting local officers in our searches and ongoing enquires in and around the Saltcoats area. We have also been assisted by our Air Support Unit and police dogs. Officers are also continuing to check CCTV footage from the town in case that will help their investigation.
“We are working to establish where Corry headed after he left the shop on Wheatley Road around 9.35am on Tuesday, 1 March.
"I would ask anyone driving in or around that area with dash-cam footage or anyone with personal footage to contact us in case they have captured any details that may help us trace Corry.”
Anyone with any information that may help officers should contact 101 with reference 1113 of 3 March.
The ICI Nobel site was housed on a 100-acre patch of land, once home to the world's largest dynamite plant, and still bears the hallmarks of the controversial industry with industrial buildings from the time hidden among dunes.
But industry still remains active at a part of the site with Chemring, which makes pyrotechnics and detonators, among other products, for the aerospace, security and defence markets housed in one corner.
